Portrait - Picture of the Day #1

I’ve done a bunch of awesome family and senior portrait sessions over the last couple months and there are so many images I love from them. So… for the next few days (at least) I’m going to do a ‘picture of the day’ and pick one of the ones I like at random to post.

What better way to start….

Maternity portrait - Sunset at the beach - large strobe - hard light - sun flair

This maternity portrait was taken on the beach at Priest Point park in Olympia just a few minutes before sunset. The sun is in the upper corner of the image and creates a dramatic backlight as well as a lot of flare. I love sun flare. I also love the effect created by the high power strobe lighting the subject from my left, it balances out the strong sunlight nicely and creates a lot of depth in the image. I’d love to hear your thoughts, feel free to leave a comment… ;-)

It’s hard to pick just one, even from the set of these specific portraits. But there’s always tomorrow… ;-)

Nice work. I like the flare. I also like how you lit the other side of her for a dramatic shot. Nice work.

I LOVE this!!! I am a huge sun flare fan too, but adding the strobe here makes a dramatic difference.

I love sunflare. It makes things like honey. This is a great shot, good seeing you at the PUG party.
