Savita

It's been a pretty tough week around here... Erin's grandpa fell down and broke his neck, the good news is he's through surgery and has a very good chance of a full recovery. Not many 92 year olds can say that.

The other bad news is that Erin's dog Savita died Friday morning. It was unexpected, she was young. She passed in the night without a sound. Earlier in the night she had been restless and kept getting up and walking around the house. Both Erin and I got up to settle her back down and neither of us was happy about being disturbed. I regret that my last words to Savita before her passing were not kind ones.

I believe that the past is all about lessons and the future is all about possibilites. The lesson that I will carry with me from Savita's passing is simply to be kind.
I could qualify that statement in lots of ways, but I won't, I'm going to let it stand alone and try to keep it in mind no matter how frustrating a situation might be:

Be Kind.

Savita in January:

Nobody is going to miss her more than her brother Cody, who now has the whole yard to himself...

Summertime Fun!

Erin and Jen and I got together with a bunch of friends on the Fourth and had a great time. Rich and Patty have an amazingly nice house on the Sound and Rich pulled all the kids (and me!) around behind his boat on the tube. Good clean fun.. ;-)

OK, so this picture is from July 1st and not 4th, but it's my blog and I like it:

I'm Back!

As you may have noticed I've been MIA for a while on my blog. For the last month or so I've been spending several days a week in Oregon helping my grandparents. Health issues have impacted their lives in a big way. Last week they made the decision to move up here to Olympia, at least temporarily, so that they can more easily get the support of family. I found them a great apartment at the Colonial Inn just a few blocks from my house. They will have 3 chef prepared meals a day, housecleaning and laundry service, all included in the price of the rent. Pretty cool, now we can focus on the fun stuff and hanging out without them having to worry about all those chores. And I don't have a 3 hour drive to see them!

And.... I can get back to work! :-)

My grandpa taking a look at the front yard and bulkhead at their house in Canon Beach. I'm sure it won't be the last time he's there, but it's a big step to move out all the same.

Thanksgiving 2006

We had a fun family gathering at Erin's yesterday. She's an amazing cook so of course the food was great! All the kids, both young and older, were imediately drawn to the pool table, so I spent a large portion of the night supervising (and playing of course!).

I made a slideshow of a few pictures, they are also in a gallery here: Thanksgiving at Erins

Today I'm headed up to Seattle to see my cousins and hang out. Maybe I'll take a few more pictures... seems likely.

Here is the slideshow, it's about a one megabyte download so it might take a minute to show up, when it does just press the play button on the bottom of the black window. If you have trouble you may need a Quicktime plugin.

Have a great weekend!!

Piper Archer II

My grandparents graced us with a visit this week. They flew their private plane from Astoria OR to the Olympia Airport and stayed here for a couple days. It was a very nice visit and I hope they come back soon. :-)

There was also a cool dual prop driven plane that taxied out and took off while we were there that said 'Turner Classic Movies' on the side. It nearly blew my camera bag off of Erin's car when it turned the corner...

Jen's Tolo Dress

Erin's 15 y/o daughter, Jen, models her dress for me. She was tired and ready for bed, but was a good sport about it since we won't see her again before the dance. With a little arm twisting we also got her big sister Kim into the action....

My Mom's Birthday

I won't tell you how old my mom turns on Monday and unless you already know I doubt you can guess. Here are some pictures from the fun birthday dinner we had at Salty's on Redondo Beach just outside of Federal Way.

Skiing and hanging out in Wenatchee

I had a great time in Wenatchee last weekend, went to Mission Ridge on Saturday and then up the Icicle Creek outside Leavenworth on Sunday.

And here's a couple more IR pics from the Icicle trip:

Too bad the Hawk's didn't pull it off this year. It was still fun to watch. :-)

Pictures

Jen and her friend Erin Painting her room

I take pictures most every day. I plan to post a few of them here whenever I have time, hopefully every day.

Last night, Jen and her friend Erin painted over the soft yellow of her room with a bright blue. They didn't quite finish, giving up out of exhaustion about 11:30pm. I, of course, took pictures:
